Preservation of DLC data from Animal Crossing: City Folk / Let's Go to the City.
Animal Crossing: City Folk (known as Let's Go to the City in Europe and Australia) featured a lot of post-launch extra content released via WiiConnect24. These consist of 91 new items and 10 exclusive designs. The player would receive distributed items in special letters that were hand-delivered by Pete. Designs were obtained from Wendell. This project aims to preserve all the Animal Crossing: City Folk DLC content. However, since the distribution data was only shared in very small timeframes, getting hold of authentic data is very difficult and requires many save files to be analyzed. Thanks to community efforts, all items (including three unreleased ones), most designs and many of the letters have already been preserved. That said, there's still a lot left to preserve.
If you played the game between 2008-2013, there's a good chance that your save data could contain DLC-related data. You can contribute by sharing your save data or, if you wish to keep your save private or are unable to dump your save, by providing screenshots. Below you can find an overview of information we are still missing as well as methods to dump your save data. Feel free to reach out on my Discord server or via e-mail (aurumsmods@gmail.com). With a few steps, you can easily contribute to this preservation effort. Huge thanks in advance!
.pat files of preserved designs.Save data from Japanese and Canadian French players are of particular interest! Regardless, save data in any language will be helpful for preservation.

Luckily, to contribute to this project, there's not much you'd have to do. All that I need are the extracted
rvforest.datand wc24dl.vff files from the game's save data. On a homebrew-enabled Wii, you can use apps like
SaveGame Manager GX to dump your save data. If you don't want to mod your console, you can either take screenshots or
you can make a backup of your console's NAND. In case you need help performing these steps or to send me save data,
feel free to contact me (Discord, e-mail)!
I'm looking forward to your help. Thank you!
For this, you'll have to install homebrew on your Wii console. This process is fairly simple and very safe. Breaking
your console is practically impossible if you clearly follow guides on setting up homebrew. I generally recommend the
Wii Hacks Guide for modding your Wii system. You don't have to follow the entire guide,
it's fine to do everything up to the installation of the Open Shop Channel. After that, you'll have to download
SaveGame Manager GX (WiiBrew page,
Open Shop Channel). Then, you launch the app via the Homebrew
Channel to extract save data to your SD card. After that, there should be two files called rvforest.dat and
wc24dl.vff on your SD card. These are the files necessary for further analysis of DLC content.
That's okay. In this case, you can create a backup of your Wii's NAND and load it into Dolphin Emulator to access the save data. This way we can preserve the content more accurately and authentically. This process puts the console into a temporarily modded state which will be reset once you reboot the console. This process will leave no traces on your console. I recommend that we work this out together, so feel free to contact me on my Discord server.
If you don't want to create a NAND backup either, that's fine. Just launch your game and search for the designs and letters we are currently missing. If you find something of interest, be sure to take screenshots of them and send them to me via e-mail or on my Discord server, both of which are linked above.
